Drawing Out The Hidden Performance: Honda CBX Custom
JB-POWER's CBX1000
The Honda CBX (1000) suddenly appeared in the late 70s. Sadamu Bito, the president of Bito R&D, felt that the CBX's six-cylinder, air-cooled, parallel-cylinder engine had great potential for growth and torque, but thought the chassis and suspension were undeniably old and did not fully realize the potential of the engine. Therefore, Mr. Bito decided that if these negatives were removed, the CBX would be a wonderful motorcycle. He therefore rebuilt the entire chassis, including the engine interior.
First of all, the front forks, which were stock Φ35mm and seemed to be too thin, were replaced with Φ41mm cartridge-type forks. The swingarm is an aluminum square type to take advantage of the gripping power of the current tires. The JB-POWER Forged Magnesium JB4 wheels, known for their lightweight and high rigidity, further enhance mobility. Of course, braking power has also been enhanced, with Φ320mm disc rotors and 6-pot calipers combined for controllable braking. The chassis is built for comfortable and safe riding. The engine internals have also been modified. For the pistons, a Φ67mm aluminum forged piston kit and chromoly connecting rods were used. The intake and exhaust systems are JB-POWER titanium 6-1 full exhaust with a 6-stroke FCR to draw out the power. Combined with the strengthened chassis, the rider can enjoy an exciting yet safe and stress-free riding experience.
Bodyworks
The seat is custom made by JB-POWER, and the surface skin is reupholstered with a dimpled type to prevent sliding when riding. In addition, JB-POWER can process the seat lowering or raising when reupholstering.
While BITO R&D is very particular about riding performance, it also releases high-quality machined parts that produce a high-quality riding experience. This license plate holder is one of them.
Engine
The beautiful air-cooled 6-cylinder engine has been completely redesigned inside. The displacement has been enlarged to 1,130cc to obtain more power, and the power is reliably transferred by chromoly connecting rods. In addition, JB-POWER's special porting, WPC treatment, and molybdenum disulfide shots were used to reduce drag and extend service life. The specifications were pursued for long-lasting enjoyment.
With the increase in power, the amount of heat in the engine has also increased. As a countermeasure against this heat, a 13-row oil cooler has been installed. Hoses and fitting parts are also included in the set to save time and effort when replacing the cooler.
Intake & Exhaust
The 6-stroke FCR Φ33mm strengthens the intake system, increasing power and response. The unique layout of the intake system, where three stacks face inward at a time, is actually based on the stock design, so there is less interference with the knees when knee gripping.
A 6-1 assembly type titanium hand-bent full exhaust system is used for not only more power but also easier handling. It also contributes to a significant weight reduction of approximately 4kg compared to the stock 18kg.
Handle
The upper and under brackets are made by JB-POWER and match the Φ41mm front forks to the chassis. This bracket (fork bridge set) is variable offset type and can be changed to 35mm and 40mm.
Chassis
The step is also a JB-POWER original product, with a 15mm forward and 30mm up position to provide a sense of unity with the chassis while increasing riding freedom. A pillion step kit is also installed.
The front forks are JB-POWER KYB Φ41mm. Internal cartridge type springs and special tuning are installed, but the titanium coating to the inner tube has been also added for this bike.
The rear shocks are also made by KYB, as are the front shocks. The rear shock is equipped with a damping force adjustment function, and is reset as a set with the front shock to provide a high quality riding.
The swingarm used on this bike is made of JB-POWER aluminum type. This model is light and strong, but not too hard, and pursues a balance between flexibility and rigidity. In addition to the hairline finish, a black powder coated version is also available.
Brake
The combination of 6-pot radial-mount calipers and Φ320mm cast-iron rotors easily bring even the heaviest machines under control. Chromoly axle shafts are also used.
The rear brake is also an important point in controlling the bike body. JB-POWER offers a rear brake kit with Φ250mm cast iron rotors, AP Racing CP2696 calipers, and hoses.
