Review Carburetor and Ignition: CB1100R Custom
TTR MOTORS's CB1100R
TTR Motors manufactures and sells many original parts for the Honda CB-F series and 6-cylinder CBX. They also sell various custom bikes, and this beautiful CB1100R is one of them. It is a German spec. '83 CB1100RD, which has already tripped 17,000km. Although it looks like a stock machine, it has been fine-tuned without losing the beautiful look of CB1100R. The carburetor and ignition has been revised, and in addition, the drawbacks on starting have been minimized to make it easier to handle.
Specifically, turning the crankshafts properly is important when starting. In addition, since the starter's one-way clutch is basically fragile in CB series, the ignition unit has been replaced with a product by AS Uotani to prevent misfires when the engine is cold immediately after starting and at high rpm after starting. The carburetor has been also modified for the CB1300SF (SC40) to solve the difficulty of starting after overflowing. Its bore size is Φ33mm, the same as the CB1100R stock carburetor, so it has been installed for better compatibility, and starting performance has greatly improved. With stable idling, the engine starts to rev up from around 6,000 rpm. Such performance reflects how proven their technology is. Since the ignition and intake system tune increases power, the seals around the engine have also been replaced. The clutch and brakes have been also customized.
Bodyworks
The aluminum fuel tank is retained but nicely finished.
Handle
The gauges and handlebar have been also refinished and cleaned. The stock front master cylinders have been overhauled for a precise operation.
Intake & Exhaust
The 1062cc air-cooled DOHC 4-valve straight-4 engine is retained, but the ignition and intake systems are mainly improved. The clutch has been renewed and the clutch housing has been overhauled to accommodate the increased power. The head cover gasket which is prone to cause oil leakage, left cover gasket, and change shaft seal, have been also replaced. The fragile starter clutch has been also modified and reinforced for more safety. The exteriors have been also remade. A modified Φ33mm carburetor for the CB1300SF has been also installed for reliable starting, stable idling, and clean revving.
Chassis
The frame and rearsets are still stock and in good condition.
The front forks with red bottom cases and Φ39mm inner tubes, a one-sided two-piston front caliper, and a ventilated disc with many circumferential vents for better cooling (the CB1100R also has many slits on the inner side) are stock. The brake caliper has been overhauled and coated with gun coat paint on the body for better heat dissipation, and corrosion-resistant aluminum caliper piston has been assembled.
The rear brake caliper has been overhauled and painted with gun coat, as well as the front, and an aluminum caliper piston is installed. The brake discs are also the stock solid type. The exhaust system consists of a dual-pipe full exhaust by Marving. The exhaust pipes have been painted with Cerakote (black) by TTR to enhance weather resistance.
The steel square pipe swingarm and rear shocks are retained. Boomerang Comstar aluminum wheels are 2.50-18 for the front and 3.00-18 for the rear, and the wheel bearings are new. The tires are the current Bridgestone BT46, in sizes 100/90-18 and 130/80-18.
